Unique Bridal Style | Elopement - Myrtle Beach, SC

Plus Size Unique Bride - Boho - Offbeat Bride - Raleigh, Durham, Myrtle Beach00032.jpg

As many of you know, I am a body positive photographer and my goal is to show women just how stunning they are through each special occasion in their life. I get the pleasure of photographing women during their biggest moments and I feel like the luckiest human on the planet. This is a great example of why I feel so freaking lucky. This gorgeous plus size bride had the most offbeat and unique bridal style I have ever seen and I am 100% here for it.

Selena got married this year in March on the beach in Pawleys Island. The ceremony was incredibly intimate and what made it so special was the people in the wedding all got to stay in a beach house leading up to the big day. This lended itself nicely to an incredibly small and intimate affair and paired incredibly richly with all the nuances of the day. From deliciously lavish floral arrangements to hand made alters, the day couldn’t have been more perfect.

The thing that stood out the most to me was Selena’s unique style. As you can see from the first image the dress itself is unlike anything you will ever see and that is because the dress was hand draped and sewn by Selena’s mom. The coolest part was that a huge portion of the skirt was made from her mother’s own wedding dress. The cape was detachable and was hand sewn with swatches of lace from her mom’s old vail. The bottom of the dress was then hand dipped dyed to get the unique ombre affect. To finish the look she paired the shear top with a nude bodysuit and walked the isle barefoot. Major swoon worthy moment.

She was stunning. Beyond stunning. As she was getting ready the room was empty except for her and her bad ass mom who hand stitched her into the skirt. Yep you read that right. The wedding dress was so custom that on the day of, her mom was on hand with thread and needle to get her into the skirt that she poured so much love into. It truly brought me to tears.

I am honored to have people like this in my life. It is a joy to shoot elopements and micro weddings but they mean so much more when all the little details are authentic to the bride. The biggest lesson this day taught me was to follow your own personal style and pursue the perfect day for YOU. Don’t fit into the typical wedding day box just because you feel the need to. Figure out what your personal style is and make it happen. When you do, you truly are the most stunning version of yourself.

Embrace all stories, especially the one you are writing that is dripping in your own bad ass style.

So much love,

Offbeat Elopement - LQBTQ - Intimate Wedding Photographer - Myrtle Beach SC00030.jpg

One of my most favorite things to photograph is elopements. There is something so powerful about love that doens’t need to grandstand. It can be celebrated in the early hours of first light in front of no one but a photographer and officiant.

This amazing couple was such a joy to work with. Weddings days can be filled with anxiety, stress and time constraints but not with these two. Stepping into their world felt like sliding into a warm weighted blanked. Sure and unbothered. It was if I was a fly on the wall, observing their love from a far. Almost as if I wasn’t there. They made their commitment to each other on the beaches of Huntington State Park at first light and it was magical.

The sun gifted us with the most amazing cotton candy pink and burnt orange sunrise and they sealed the deal with an heirloom box of the most important things in their life. We got to explore the park unbothered and shoot on deserted beaches. I haven’t loved an elopement more and it was such an honor to be a very small part of their special day. Deb and Jill, thank you.

It's a Family Affair | Family Photography Raleigh, Durham and Myrtle Beach

Intimate Family Photographer - Lifestyle - Raleigh, Durham, Myrtle Beach00004.jpg

Dear Momma Bears,

Please hear me when I say that family photos are taken to leave as heirlooms for your adorable babies. I know that we all think we are going to live for ever, but I know from first hand experience that is just not true. You are doing a disservice to your children’s memories of you by not being in photos WITH them. Come out from behind that phone and play with your littles….I promise you they will cherish those photos more than anything.

I have had the honor of photographing this next family for three years. Every year they call me during their annual beach vacation and we document the marching of time. I have been photographing this family since little man could barely toddle around and I couldn’t feel more proud of the task.

I will tell you that the thing that tickles me the most is that me and sweet baby girl share a birthday. I have developed such a bond with this family because of my little birthday twin. Thats what it’s all about. Find a photographer who can walk through life’s little wonders with you. Someone who shows up and knows the power these images hold and will continue to hold in the future.

Stop worrying about how crazy you might look on vacation, what your tan lines are doing or the extra 10 pounds you think you are carrying around. Let all that go and get in front of a lens and capture these fleeting moments with your babies. You will thank me later.

Embrace all stories, especially the ones covered in camp fire smoke and sand.

With Love,

Embrace All Stories | Maternity Portraits - Myrtle Beach, SC

Body Positive Maternity Shoot - Intimate Lifestyle - Raleigh, Durham, Myrtle Beach00020.jpg

Is it just me or do women look their most radiant when they are pregnant? Even those that are battling crippling morning sickness and swollen ankles, there is something so powerful about the female form when it is growing another human. Every time I get to photograph a woman during those nine months I walk away totally shook that we have the ability to transform and create life.

Luckily this adorable momma didn’t have any of those complications. In fact, she spent the first few months totally oblivious to the fact that she was pregnant. The fun back story is we did a maternity shoot and about 6 months prior I had the privilege of shooting a boudoir session and she was pregnant for both!! I am totally in awe of this powerful, strong, adorable, confident momma. She is kicking butt at the whole momma game and I am so fiercely proud of her.

It has taken me nearly a year to blog this session but the passing of time will never diminish the beauty and radiance of this amazing moment. It was an honor getting to capture her beautiful form and celebrate the miracle that she brought into this world. Every day I thank my lucky stars that I get to be a part of such important moments in life.

Embrace all stories, especially the one you are writing.

Embracing Motherhood - Female Empowerment | Myrtle Beach, SC

Embracing Motherhood - Female Empowerment Movement, Myrtle Beach00006.jpg

As many of you know I am also a body positive boudoir photographer. My one and only mission is to help women see their gorgeously imperfect bodies as the vessels of perfection that they are. This Embracing Motherhood campaign is something I am starting to help encourage new mommas to get in front of the camera with their babies. If this is something you are interested in, please send me a message. As long as you are within traveling distance, I will travel to you and your group of ladies. Please see the blog below from Katelyn Scott Boudoir.

This one goes out to all the amazing Momma Bear’s who are doing this messy thing called life with their littles.  I am not a momma yet, but heaven all mighty, I am so proud of you.  I can’t even keep a house plant alive and y’all are out here keeping a whole human alive.  Are you perfect, probably not.  Do you occasionally get pooped on, ya that’s a fact.  Is your body wrecked from growing a human, most likely.  Here is the one thing that I know to be true, you are doing the best you can and I see you.

Motherhood looks different for every mom and no matter what the terms of your pregnancy, you are growing a human….inside you.  Have you ever really thought about that?  Your body has to expand and change to accommodate the new tenant in your belly.  Your hips spread, your skin stretches, your butt gets bigger and your breasts fill.  You are stretched to your absolute max and what comes of that is a very small being, born of your flesh.

With the ever changing topography of your body comes a whole other wave of body confidence issues.  If you are like the majority of the population, then you battled self loathing prior to the new addition of stretch marks, dimples, leaky breasts and 40 pounds.  Our current society thrives on women feeling unworthy, especially new moms.  The health and wellness industry is a multi billion dollar werewolf that preys on women’s insecurities and what better time to attack then when you are raw and battered from child birth.  Things like plastic surgery, fillers, lifts, Spanx, photoshop and unrealistic expectations feed the ever burning fire of self loathing.  Even for the most strong willed, it is a hard road to navigate alone.

When I say I see you, I 100% mean that.  I don’t have kids, but I work with women on a daily basis that are battling the same things you are.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE even though you may feel that way.  There are so many mommas out there who are feeling the same discomforts and fears that you are.  It doesn’t matter what age your kiddos are, you may never get used to the new frame you are living in, and that’s ok.  This blog is not intended to make you a huge body advocate over night, but I do have a couple challenges for you.

In the face of all of societies expectations for the perfect mom bod that snaps back I am begging you to do a few small things with you babes this summer.  They aren’t major, but here goes……

Wear the swimsuit.  Yep I said it.  Fold that changing body into a bikini and get in the water.  By demonstrating acceptance in your own frame, you are modeling to your kids that bathing suits are made for all sizes.  If you hide your frame behind pants and long shirts at the beach you are teaching them that only certain bodies are allowed the luxury of baring their skin.  By getting into a swimsuit at whatever weight you may be, you are giving them permission to accept their body as well.  It seems so simple, but so many mommas are worried about what OTHER people may think.  Let those haters be and enjoy the sun on your skin.

Get in the picture.  Nope, not a selfie where your body is hidden, a whole ass picture.  As I write this I can hear the collective groans from the group and that’s ok.  This picture isn’t for you.  You don’t have to share it to the world and you don’t have to hang it on the fridge but you do need to document your place in their story.  When you aren’t in the picture you aren’t in the quilt of memories they can look back on when you are gone.  A memory lasts a while, a picture lasts a life time.  Plus have you seen how gorgeous you look when you are playing with your babies?  Your eyes light up, you spill happiness from the roots of your hair and you radiate a whole new light.  Don’t believe me, let me prove it to you.

Show your kids what unabridged joy can do for the soul.  When you are worried about the 40 pounds that you have gained you are not demonstrating pure joy.  You are simply existing and that’s not fair. It is your job to teach them how to play and have fun, so laugh from your belly, wear your bikini to the beach and play with little fear of how your body looks.  It will be hard but sooooo worth it in the long run.

Support other women.  Yes, even the women who seem like they are struggling.  Find one thing about her you admire and tell her.  We are all battling the same stereotypes and it never hurts to lift another human up.  Show your babies that it is normal to compliment other women.  Make this a normal practice in your day to day and watch how your babies respond.  In the same breath that I ask you to support, I also ask you to NEVER EVER under any circumstance point out to your babies what another human is wearing and tell them it’s not flattering.  Or that they should be wearing more, or that’s not appropriate for their body.  Nope, never. Never ever.  Why you ask?  Because it’s not your place and shit flows down hill.  If your kids grow up watching you do it, it becomes ok for them.  You are their guiding light, so take the job seriously.

Lastly, be present.  Like in the moment present.  Don’t wait for the day that you have a perfect body to enjoy your time on earth.  I hate to pop your high hopes bubble but that perfect body will never actually show up.  If you wait for that time in your life where all the things are perfectly aligned you will have missed all that was happening in front of you.  You only have 18 short years with these little humans, so more than anything I beg you to be present.  Take the burden of how you look off your shoulders and just be present for these little souls.

Mommas, I love you.  I envy you and I rejoice in the miracle of the lives you have brought into this world.  You are doing great and I see you trying your hardest.  I hope this blog challenges you to stretch just a little further from a place of love, happiness and determination.  We may have been steeped in a society fueled by self hatred but we don’t have to pass that onto our next generation.  Learn the joy of being present, of stepping in front of a lens and just showing up for your kiddos.  It may be hard but the change will be so worth it.  Embrace all bodies babes, especially the one you are in!

Huge thanks to the women who stepped up and slayed this weekend in Myrtle Beach….who is next?!

Love you all,

Hair Salon - Personal Branding Images | Revel6 Hair Bar

Hair Salon Branding Photos - Personal Branding - Female Owned Businesses - Raleigh, Durham, Myrtle Beach00030.jpg

Ok world….meet the amazing all female team of Revel6 Hair Bar! If you have not been into the salon you truly have no idea what you are missing out on. They are located in the heart of Myrtle Beach, SC and are owned by the amazing Selena Watts. If you are looking to support local business it doesn’t get much more local than this with Selena being born and raised in the great city of Myrtle.

This powerhouse group of women specialize in cuts, color, styling, waxing, blowouts, event makeup and whatever else you could possibly imagine. I may be biased because I call this trio my family, but I have never been to a more knowledgeable salon. When you come see these women they will leave you feeling your best self.

The salon itself is nestled into a strip mall just off 17 business right next to The Library restaurant. Unlike many other salons, this amazing place is dripping in culture and swag. The walls are coated in the most amazing local art that you can purchase, and everywhere you look there is something unique to hang your attention on. Selena’s laugh can be heard down the block and you feel like one of the girls from the moment you walk in. There are days I go in to get my color done and stay for hours gossiping and catching up with all the women that stop by.

Just like the unique decor, the term “hair bar” stems from the dope bar surface you sit in front of. This 30ft long bar creates a warm and inviting feel that lends itself to a more communal atmosphere than a normal salon. It promotes commingling with the adorable human next to you as you relax in the plush white leather chairs and sip your beverage of choice. As a local through and through, Selena does an amazing job of introducing the women sitting next to each other and who knows, you may close a business deal or walk away with a new friend. It’s that special of a place!!

I am honored to have this group of women in my corner. From the moment I met these three they have been nothing short of amazing and went from client to friend to family almost instantly. It is with so much joy that I get to be a part of their photography journey and help capture their unique culture on film. If you haven’t ever been in to see them, go tomorrow. Better yet, call to make an appointment (843) 712-1650, I know you won’t be disappointed.

Support locally owned business, especially those run by a bad ass group of women. Stop in and say hi when you are in the neighborhood and tell them Katelyn sent you =) 6613 N Kings Hwy Unit C2, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572.

Real Estate Headshots - Personal Branding Photos | Myrtle Beach, SC

Real Estate Agent - Personal Branding Photos - Myrtle Beach, Raleigh, Durham00017.jpg

I would like to introduce the world to my gorgeous friend Fe. She is not only a wildly successful business woman in the Real Estate world, she is also a huge giver of her time, an advocate, a volunteer and a dog lover. I have adored this woman for years and am so lucky she is in my life as a client and friend. Fe is winning the personal branding game and I wanted to let people know why.

Fe has gotten her headshots and personal branding images updated every 12-18 months. That may seem like a lot to you, and it is, but let me give you some insight as to why it is so important. As Fe navigates the business world her image, style, hair, look, wardrobe, etc is ever-changing. She doesn't remain stagnant while time is passing and that’s what is so wonderful about being a woman. With all that being said, the images she puts forward as her brand need to keep up. It is incredibly important to show who you are through branding images in the most up to date and authentic way possible.

A common miss-step I often see is people, especially women, using headshots and branding images from years ago. Sometimes even as far back as 15-20 years. Y’all, this is a big no. If someone is researching you before a sales meeting, it is often because they want to have a general grasp of who you are and how you represent yourself. If they walk into a meeting expecting to see one thing and are greeted by something totally different you have lost the first impression. This is why it is so so so important to let your personal branding do some of the work for you.

Even as I write this I can hear a collective groan from the group in the back. Ladies, before you give me an excuse about how you look, how time has aged you, how you’re waiting to lose those extra pounds, let me remind you that YOU ARE WORTHY of authentic representation. You may see one thing but the world sees the beautiful and strong boss babe that you are. Don’t let your fears or insecurities stop you from having images that represent you in the best possible light. You are loved, you are strong, you are worthy and you deserve this treat. Don’t wait….be more like Fe.

With love from one boss babe to another,

Embrace All Stories | The Evolution

Katelyn Scott Photography - Raleigh Lifestyle Photographer.jpg

I have a secret. One that I have been waiting to tell for a long time out of fear. What can I say, I am human and we tend to fear the unknown. My company, Kali Klicks is taking a new name and a new shape. I started this company on a wing and a prayer back in 2016 and had more support from my people then I ever imagined possible. For that I am eternally grateful. Back then I took any photography job that came my way and that included things that I wasn’t over the moon passionate about. Looking back now, I am thankful I did because it taught me all the things that I didn’t want to do and showed me the path to where I am the the happiest. This is what I am calling the evolution and I hope you can walk with me on this journey.

For those of you who don’t know me and don’t know my story, now is your chance to peek into my history of why am I evolving. My dad, Scott, passed away in 2012 very unexpectedly. He was 56 years old and far too young to be taken from this earth. He lived an amazing life that he dedicated to serving others and was my rock. He taught me so much of the resilience I cling to today and helped develop the grit it takes to own my own company. When he passed, it was like a huge valley opened in my life. I could look back across the ravine and see the girl I used to be but could never fully find her again. A huge piece of my heart was taken the day I got the call and I truly believe it never fully grew back and that’s ok. I lost a parent and anyone who has been in this same camp knows the feeling.

This loss and subsequent hole needed to be packed and filled if I was going to survive. This is where my story and life took a turn I am eternally grateful for. I bought my first big girl camera the year we spread his ashes and I have dedicated my life to that art form ever since. I filled his void every single day by pouring into other people the love and confidence my dad gave so freely. I continue to live my life with a service forward mindset because I continuously strive to make him proud. If you had asked me that day what my life would look like 7 years later, I would never have told you I would be standing where I am. I have owned my own company for 3 years and have loved every second of it. He gave me this gift through his legacy and I cherish it so much because of that.

Kali Klicks was born in 2016 in a small town in South Carolina. My company was propelled into success by some of the biggest hearted individuals I have ever known. People put their trust in me to capture some of their most important days, memories and experiences and I can never truly thank them for their support. I shot things like family sessions, headshots, real estate, events and even weddings. It was all fun for me but there were days I would ache from the shear weight of it all. Photography is incredibly vulnerable and a lot of the time I would carry the fears of my clients home with me. The most common theme through all of my sessions was a constant cry of self deprecation from the women in front of my lens. It was a weight so many of the ladies I was shooting carried around and I would come home steeped in sadness.

This is where Katelyn Scott Boudoir was born. The company Katelyn Scott, which fell under the Kali Klicks umbrella, was built in 2017 to help women celebrate their amazing bodies and step out from the weight of self hatred they carried around. I have helped transform people’s lives through the art of photography and to me that is my number one goal. This is where the evolution comes into play.

Kali Klicks is officially becoming Katelyn Scott Photography and has been in the works for close to a year. I am officially changing the name to mirror my efforts in Katelyn Scott Boudoir in the attempt to use photography as a way to lift women up. I will be focusing on sessions that celebrate the female form through a raw and authentic viewpoint. Body positivity is my number one focus and helping women feel comfortable in front of my lens is what drives my passion. Women are so worthy of seeing themselves the way the world does and it’s time to hold up a giant mirror to show each woman just how perfectly they are made.

I would love to be a part of your journey going forward and that will look different for everyone. I will be focusing heavily on sessions that get women in front of my lens. To some that may look like bad ass branding photos that celebrate them as business babes. To others that may look like mommy and me sessions that get you out from behind that camera and give your kids the gift of seeing you in images. To some it may look like newborn sessions or celebrating your pregnant form in its messy perfection. Whatever this path looks like for you, I am going to make it my mission in life to show women in all walks of life how gorgeous they are. It’s about time women learn how worthy they are of being in images and loving what they see.

I thank each and everyone of you that has supported Kali Klicks over the last three years and I invite you to be a part of Katelyn Scott Photography. It is going to be a journey but know it’s still me behind the lens. I am still the same quirky person who started Kali Klicks and will continue to honor all my past clients. Just know going forward I am throwing all my weight and effort into helping the world create space for the female form, raw and unaltered. It’s work that needs to be done and I am honored to take that role on. Embrace all stories, especially your own.

With so much love and appreciation,
